Takealot Group is seeking a Data Principal Engineer in Cape Town to lead the real-time data platform that powers logistics, supply chain, and analytics. You will set governance standards and design scalable architecture, enabling AI tooling and automated data operations.

You’ll mentor senior engineers, define master blueprints, and drive cross-team data initiatives, ensuring the Group’s data strategy scales with growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent.
• Experience designing large-scale data platforms (lakehouse/warehouse) and real-time analytics.
• Proven ability to lead platform simplification and govern data standards.

Responsibilities

• Produce a master blueprint of the data architecture and drive simplification across teams.
• Design and build a live, event-driven data layer for operational analytics.
• Establish and own data governance standards and documentation.
• Lead AI tooling integration and platform alignment for safe data use.
• Mentor engineers and set technical standards across the division.
