Placements24 is recruiting a Senior Contract Lawyer for its in-house legal team in Midrand, Gauteng. The role focuses on managing and advising on commercial contracts, service agreements, procurement docs, and related instruments to support diverse business units.

You will draft, review, and negotiate high-stakes agreements, provide risk analysis, develop templates, and mentor junior lawyers. The ideal candidate has 10+ years of post-qualification experience and excellent stakeholder management

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney with at least 10 years of post-qualification experience in commercial contract law.
• Proven track record drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex agreements.
• Strong understanding of contracting principles, remedies, and risk management.
• Excellent communication and client-service orientation.

Responsabilités

• Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts including vendor, partnership, licensing and NDAs.
• Provide expert advice on contract interpretation, compliance, and risk management.
• Develop standardized contract templates and processes.
• Manage the contract lifecycle from initiation to execution and storage.
• Collaborate with procurement, sales and other departments to meet contractual needs.
• Mentor junior staff on contract matters.

About the Role

Our client, a leading multinational corporation with a significant presence in Midrand, Gauteng , is seeking a highly experienced Senior Contract Lawyer to join their dynamic in-house legal department. This role is essential for managing and advising on a wide array of commercial contracts, service agreements, procurement documents, and other legal instruments critical to the company's operations. You will play a key role in mitigating legal risks, ensuring contractual compliance, and supporting various business units in their contractual dealings. We are looking for a candidate with exceptional drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills, coupled with a deep understanding of commercial law and contract management best practices. The ideal candidate will be adept at working in a fast-paced corporate environment and possess excellent stakeholder management abilities. This is a significant opportunity to contribute to a major enterprise in Gauteng , working on complex and varied contractual matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts, including vendor agreements, partnership agreements, licensing agreements, and NDAs.
• Provide expert legal advice on contract interpretation, compliance, and risk management.
• Develop and implement standardized contract templates and processes.
• Manage the contract lifecycle, ensuring all agreements are properly executed, tracked, and stored.
• Collaborate with procurement, sales, and other business departments to understand their contractual needs.
• Advise on dispute resolution related to contractual obligations.
• Ensure all contracts comply with relevant laws and regulations.
• Conduct legal research on contract law issues and provide legal opinions.
• Mentor and guide junior legal staff on contract matters.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney with a minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience, with a strong focus on commercial contract law.
• Proven expertise in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
• In-depth knowledge of contract law principles, remedies, and best practices.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
• Strong business acumen and understanding of corporate operations.
• Ability to manage a high volume of work and prioritize effectively.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working in an in-house legal department is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with contract management software is an advantage.
