AltGen Recruitment is hiring on behalf of a leading developer of utility-scale renewable energy projects. Our client specialises in multiple renewable technologies, solar (PV), wind, water and hydro, and delivers only utility-scale projects of 140MW+. The client’s offices are based in Cape Town and projects require travel to large-scale site locations.

The role

We’re seeking a detail-oriented Civil Draughtsman to prepare accurate and constructible civil engineering drawings for large utility-scale renewable energy projects. You will convert engineers’ designs into clear construction documentation used for tendering and site construction.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and update civil engineering drawings for utility-scale PV, wind and energy storage (and other RE) projects: site layouts, grading plans, road layouts and drainage plans.
• Develop detailed drawings for foundations, retaining structures, culverts and other reinforced concrete works in line with engineers’ calculations.
• Produce cross-sections, profiles, construction details and schedules required for tender and construction documentation.
• Update drawings per engineers’ comments, design changes and site feedback while maintaining revision traceability.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, electrical and mechanical disciplines to ensure complete and correct drawing interfaces.
• Verify dimensions, levels and annotations for accuracy and compliance with standards and project requirements.
• Assist with quantity take-offs and bills of quantities from approved drawings when required.
• Properly archive and manage drawing files (DWG, PDF, etc.) and support document control for issuing drawings to clients, contractors and stakeholders.

Qualifications & experience

• Associate’s degree, diploma or certification in Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting or related field.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Civil Draftsman — experience in energy, infrastructure or heavy civil sectors preferred.
• Proven portfolio of land development or industrial project drawings is highly desirable.
• Proficient in AutoCAD / Civil 3D, Revit and other advanced drafting/CAD tools.
• Strong understanding of reinforced concrete detailing, earthworks, drainage and roadworks.
• Excellent attention to detail, strong coordination and communication skills, and ability to work to tight deadlines.
