Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Bio-Chemist Researcher for a Johannesburg-based biomedical research leader. It combines lab work with collaborative projects to push biochemical understanding and translate discoveries into therapeutics.

You will design complex experiments, mentor staff, prepare reports/publications, manage safety, and contribute to grant proposals, with opportunities for career progression and relocation support.

Qualifications

• PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or closely related field is required.
• Minimum of 5 years post-doctoral research experience in biochemistry or drug discovery.
• Proven track record with publications in reputable journals.
• Hands-on with enzyme kinetics, protein purification, chromatography, MS.
• Strong knowledge of cell biology, molecular biology, and pharmacology.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute complex biochemical experiments to study disease mechanisms and drug targets.
• Analyze and interpret large datasets from biochemical assays using advanced statistics.
• Develop and optimize biochemical assays and methodologies for research/diagnostics.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance research projects.
• Supervise and mentor junior staff on experimental design and data analysis.
• Prepare scientific reports and manuscripts for journals and conferences.
• Manage lab inventory, equipment maintenance, and safety compliance.
• Contribute to grant writing and funding proposals.
