Our client, a prominent financial technology firm, is looking for an experienced Senior Backend Software Engineer specializing in Java to join their dynamic team in Pretoria, Gauteng . This role is crucial for designing, developing, and maintaining robust and scalable backend systems that power their innovative financial services. You will be involved in the full software development lifecycle, from concept to deployment, and will play a key role in mentoring junior engineers and driving technical excellence. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement high-performance, scalable backend services using Java and related frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot).
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs for internal and external consumption.
• Work with databases, including relational (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL solutions.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
• Collaborate with front-end developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver features.
• Participate actively in code reviews, providing constructive feedback.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve issues in development, test, and production environments.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technical roadmaps.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in software development.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development.
• Strong expertise in Java programming language and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data).
• Proven experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
• Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL).
• Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) is a plus.
• Experience with microservices architecture.
• Understanding of message queuing systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization (Docker) is desirable.
