Placements24 in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, seeks a seasoned Senior Backend Developer to lead the design, development and maintenance of robust server-side systems and APIs powering our applications across multiple services and microservices.

You will architect scalable solutions, mentor junior engineers, collaborate with frontend teams, implement security and testing, and optimize performance using cloud platforms and containerization to deliver high-quality backend services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Proven experience as a Senior Backend Developer or similar role.
• Strong proficiency in backend programming languages such as Python, Java, Node.js, or Go.
• Extensive experience with designing and implementing RESTful APIs.
• Solid understanding of database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB) and ORM frameworks.
• Experience with microservices architecture and design patterns.
• Familiarity with caching mechanisms (e.g., Redis, Memcached).
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
• Experience with version control systems like Git.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities for effective collaboration in Stellenbosch, Western Cape .
• Experience with message queues (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka) is advantageous.
