About the Role

Our client, a leader in automotive technology development, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Automotive Electronics Engineer to join their innovative team in Randburg, Gauteng . This critical role focuses on the design, development, and integration of cutting-edge electronic systems and components for next-generation vehicles. You will be instrumental in shaping the electronic architecture, ensuring the reliability, performance, and safety of critical automotive electronic modules. This hybrid role allows for a balance of on-site collaboration and remote work flexibility. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of automotive electronics, embedded systems, sensor technologies, and communication protocols. You will work with a team of talented engineers, driving innovation and ensuring that our electronic systems meet the highest industry standards. Your expertise will be crucial in developing solutions for areas such as infotainment, ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems), power electronics, and body control modules.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop automotive electronic circuits and systems, including PCBs, power supplies, and signal conditioning.
• Specify and select electronic components suitable for automotive applications, considering environmental factors and reliability.
• Develop and integrate electronic control units (ECUs) and other electronic modules into vehicle architectures.
• Work with embedded software engineers to ensure seamless hardware-software integration.
• Implement and test communication interfaces such as CAN, LIN, Ethernet, and FlexRay.
• Conduct design reviews, FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), and other risk assessments.
• Troubleshoot and debug electronic hardware issues during development, validation, and production phases.
• Perform hardware testing and validation using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and logic analyzers.
• Collaborate with suppliers to ensure component quality and timely delivery.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in automotive electronics technology and industry standards (e.g., ISO 26262 for functional safety).

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in automotive electronics design and development.
• Proven experience in circuit design, schematic capture, and PCB layout using tools like Altium Designer or OrCAD.
• Strong understanding of embedded systems, microcontrollers, and digital/analog electronics.
• Experience with automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet).
• Familiarity with functional safety standards (ISO 26262) and cybersecurity principles in automotive applications.
• Proficiency in using electronic test and measurement equipment.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, comfortable working in a hybrid team environment.
• Experience with sensor integration and ADAS electronics is a plus.
