Job summary

Placements24 in Mahikeng, North West, seeks a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to drive design, analysis and testing of aerospace components. You will lead 3D modeling, drawings, and simulations, ensuring robust, compliant solutions for complex projects.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to innovation while adhering to AS9100 standards and project deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in mechanical design within aerospace.
• Expert proficiency in CAD/CAE tools (CATIA V5/V6, SOLIDWORKS) and CAE/FEA tools (ANYSYS, Abaqus).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize mechanical components and systems for aerospace applications with strict performance and safety standards.
• Create detailed 3D models, 2D drawings, and specifications using CAD software (CATIA, SOLIDWORKS).
• Perform stress, thermal, vibration, and fatigue analyses using FEA tools.
• Collaborate with aerodynamicists, structural analysts, systems engineers, and manufacturing specialists.
• Develop and execute test plans for prototypes and production components; iterate designs based on results.
• Ensure designs meet aerospace standards (AS9100) and regulatory requirements.
• Manage design tasks, timelines, and project documentation; report progress.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex design issues during development, testing, or production.
• Stay updated on new technologies, materials, and industry best practices.
• Mentor junior engineers in the North West region.
