SENIOR ACCOUNTANT
Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate
Commercial wine production meets luxury hospitality. We’re looking for a Senior Accountant who understands both.
Benguela Cove is a working wine estate in Hermanus, producing thousands of cases annually for local and international markets. Alongside this, the estate operates 13 luxury villas, 9 event spaces, and award‑winning restaurant and tasting operations.
This role requires a hands‑on, commercially minded accountant who understands agricultural production, complex stock environments, and highly seasonal business cycles. You need to be comfortable understanding the business from vineyard to bottle to guest experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Wine production costing from grape to finished stock (harvest costs, production runs, barrel ageing, bottling)
- Complex stock control across wine inventory, bulk storage, finished goods, and F&B operations
- Agricultural cost tracking, including vineyard operations, seasonal labour, and harvest logistics
- Multi-stream revenue management across:
- Wine sales (retail, wholesale, export)
- Hospitality, events, and F&B
- Preparation of monthly management accounts reflecting true production costs and profitability by product line
- Budgeting and forecasting aligned to harvest cycles, tourism seasons, and vintage planning
- Cashflow management across highly seasonal revenue and production expenditure
- Compliance management, including excise, liquor licensing, agricultural regulations, and audit requirements
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' accounting experience in agriculture, wine production, FMCG manufacturing, or similar production environments
- Strong understanding of cost accounting, including raw materials, WIP, production overheads, yield calculations, and stock valuation
- Practical stock management experience (including shrinkage, waste, ageing, and valuation)
- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to build practical costing and forecasting models
- Hands‑on approach with willingness to engage operationally and visit the estate regularly
- BCom Accounting or equivalent qualification
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics and Wine MS (advantageous but not essential)
Advantageous Experience
- Wine or beverage production industry exposure
- Hospitality or tourism operations experience
- Knowledge of excise regulations and liquor industry compliance
