Responsibilities

• Prepare year-end and interim financial results and support audits.

Reports to: Financial Manager

An established and growing group with interests across a range of industries, including agriculture, property and events, is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join its finance team in Brackenfell.

This is a hands-on and varied accounting role offering exposure to multiple companies and industries. The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial information, ensuring statutory compliance and supporting management with reliable financial and operational information.

The position would suit an experienced accountant who enjoys taking ownership, working across different areas of finance and being involved in more than just routine accounting.

Key responsibilities include:

• Preparing year-end and interim financial results and supporting external audits and reviews
• Managing accurate financial records, reconciliations and financial reporting across various entities
• Preparing and submitting monthly VAT returns and ensuring compliance with SARS and other statutory requirements
• Performing VAT and income tax control account reconciliations
• Preparing and submitting annual CIPC returns and ultimate beneficial ownership declarations
• Overseeing day-to-day accounting functions, including supplier payments, customer invoicing and payroll-related processes
• Monitoring and accurately allocating operational costs, including fuel, tolls, tyres and vehicle maintenance
• Assisting with route profitability analysis and other operational financial reporting
• Working closely with depot and operations teams to provide financial information and support
• Maintaining effective financial controls and identifying areas where processes can be improved
• Assisting the Financial Manager with various accounting, reporting and finance-related projects

Requirements:

• BCom Accounting, Finance or related qualification, or equivalent
• Completed articles with SAIPA, SAICA or CIMA
• Minimum 5 years' relevant accounting or bookkeeping experience
• Proven experience in financial reporting, reconciliations and statutory compliance
• Good working knowledge of South African tax, particularly VAT and PAYE
• Experience with accounting software such as Sage Evolution, Pastel, Xero or similar
• Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
• High attention to detail with sound analytical and problem-solving ability
• Able to work independently, take ownership and manage multiple priorities
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
