Key Responsibilities
  • Post journals, perform reconciliations and review financial results to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and process transactions in line with IFRS 17.
  • Prepare and present financial reports and disclosures, communicating impacts to management and stakeholders.
  • Analyse financial data to support decision-making and ensure consistency with underlying records.
  • Collaborate with actuaries, IT, underwriters and auditors for compliance and reporting.
  • Calculate and maintain reserves for life insurance policies and handle audit queries.
  • Identify process improvements and provide IFRS 17 guidance to internal stakeholders.
  • Support the Financial Manager in overseeing accounting operations.
Job Experience & Skills Required
Qualifications
  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • Bachelors degree in accounting, Finance or related field
  • Honours degree (preferred)
  • Chartered Accountant designation (CA(SA)) with 3-5 years post-articles experience
  • Knowledge of IFRS 17
Experience
  • Current or previous experience in the insurance industry specifically with IFRS 17 requirements is essential
  • Proven track record in month-end processes and preparation of annual financial statements
  • Experience in the insurance industry will be preferred
  • Exposure to or experience in company tax calculations particularly within the life insurance context is advantageous
Skills & Competencies
  • Thorough understanding of IFRS 17 principles and their application to life insurance financial reporting
  • Proficiency in financial software especially systems that support IFRS 17 calculations and reporting
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data under IFRS 17
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy particularly in reconciling data to IFRS 17 standards
  • Effective communication skills to explain IFRS 17 concepts and implications to stakeholders
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams on complex financial projects
  • Ability to adapt to changing regulations and standards within the insurance industry
