Job summary

Sheldon Recruitment and Selection in East London is seeking an Electronics Security Technician to install, commission and maintain CCTV, intruder alarms and access control systems. You will read wiring diagrams, fault-find on low-voltage networks and prepare clear service reports.

The role requires a Grade 12 and a diploma in electronics or related field, PSIRA Grade B registration, and a willingness to travel to client sites (company car provided).

Qualifications

• Grade 12 and a diploma in electronics, electrical engineering, electronic security systems or a related technical field.
• PSiRA Grade B registration and certification.
• At least 2 years installing/maintaining electronic security systems.
• Experience with CCTV, alarms and access control, incl. basic IP networking and low-voltage fault finding.
• Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to client sites (company car provided).
• Ability to read wiring diagrams and prepare service reports.
• Relevant security industry registrations or certifications where required.
• Specialist IT networking or integrated security systems training preferred.
• Manufacturer training in CCTV/alarms or access control products.
• Experience with gate automation, boom barriers, electric fencing and integrated security systems.

Responsibilities

• Install and commission CCTV cameras, DVRs and NVRs, intruder alarms, access control, intercoms and related equipment.
• Maintain and troubleshoot gate motors, boom barriers and electric fencing within scope.
• Conduct site assessments, identify faults and prepare material lists and technical recommendations.
• Install and label cabling, terminate connections and configure network settings securely.
• Perform planned maintenance, functional testing and fault finding; escalate where needed.
• Attend service callouts, communicate progress and restore service within response times.
• Complete job cards, service reports and client handover documents; train users on basic operation.
• Control tools, spare parts and equipment; record usage and report shortages or damage.
• Follow site safety procedures and protect client information and security layouts.

Job description

Applicants are required to meet the following criteria:

• Grade 12 and a diploma in electronics, electrical engineering, electronic security systems or a related technical field

• At least two years relevant experience installing and maintaining electronic security systems


• Practical experience with CCTV, alarms and access control, including basic IP networking and low-voltage fault finding


• Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to client sites (company car provided)


• Ability to read wiring diagrams, use test equipment and prepare clear service reports


• Relevant security industry registration and certifications where required for the assigned work, to be verified before appointment


• Preferred qualifications and experience


• Additional specialist training in IT networking or integrated electronic security systems


• Manufacturer training in commonly used CCTV, alarm or access control products


• Experience with gate automation, boom barriers, electric fencing and integrated security systems

The successful applicant would be responsible for, but not limited to:

• Install and commission CCTV cameras, DVRs and NVRs, intruder alarms, access control, intercoms and related electronic security equipment.


• Maintain and troubleshoot gate motors, boom barriers and electric fencing within the technician's training and authorised scope.


• Conduct site assessments, identify faults and prepare material lists and technical recommendations for approval.


• Install and label cabling, terminate connections and configure network settings, remote access and system permissions securely.


• Perform planned maintenance, functional testing and fault finding; escape recurring faults and issues outside the authorised scope.


• Attend service callouts, communicate progress and restore service within agreed response times.


• Complete job cards, service reports, maintenance records and client handover documents; train users on basic system operation.


• Control tools, spare parts and equipment; record usage and report shortages, losses or damage.


• Follow site safety procedures, use appropriate protective equipment and protect client information, passwords and security layouts.

Salary: Market related as per Bargaining Council rates + Company Car
