Job Summary

Houston Skilled Consultancy is seeking a highly disciplined and observant Security Officer to ensure the safety and security of shipboard personnel, assets, and operations. This role involves managing surveillance systems, enforcing maritime security protocols, and responding to safety incidents onboard. The ideal candidate will be well‑versed in shipboard security operations, possess sharp situational awareness, and exhibit a strong sense of responsibility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor all shipboard areas using advanced surveillance and CCTV systems.
  • Conduct routine patrols to deter, detect, and respond to suspicious activities.
  • Collaborate with ship officers and crew to ensure compliance with International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
  • Respond swiftly to emergencies, including fire, medical incidents, theft, and unauthorized access.
  • Enforce onboard security protocols and manage access control at gangways and restricted areas.
  • Maintain detailed logs and incident reports for all security‑related activities.
  • Participate in safety drills and security briefings for crew and passengers.
  • Assist in crowd control during embarkation, disembarkation, and onboard events.
  • Support investigations of onboard incidents and provide factual evidence as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Certification in Maritime Security (STCW VI / 6 or equivalent) preferred.
  • Proven knowledge of ISPS regulations and shipboard safety standards.
  • Excellent observational and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficient in operating CCTV and other security technology systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially under pressure.
  • Ability to remain calm and take decisive action in emergency situations.
Experience

Minimum of 2–3 years in maritime security, military, law enforcement, or a related security role.

Prior experience working on cruise liners, cargo vessels, or offshore platforms is highly desirable.

Working Hours

Rotational shift schedule (including night shifts), typically 8–12 hours per day based on voyage duration.

Contract lengths typically range from 3 to 6 months at sea, followed by paid shore leave.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Understanding of maritime legal frameworks and shipboard command structure.
  • Familiarity with emergency response procedures and first aid.
  • Multilingual ability is a plus (English required; other international languages beneficial).
  • High physical fitness level and the ability to work in confined and challenging environments.
