Job Overview
The Security Engineer is tasked with the vital responsibility of implementing and maintaining robust security protocols to safeguard the organization’s data and infrastructure. This hands‑on position entails executing security strategies, installing and configuring vital security apparatus such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems, and ensuring the continuous secure operation of the IT environment. The engineer is expected to stay abreast of the latest developments in security technologies, threats, and countermeasures, and to maintain the integrity and security of the organization’s digital resources.
Responsibilities
- Implement security controls based on guidelines and designs provided by the security architect.
- Configure and manage security solutions, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti‑virus software, and data encryption.
- Apply patches and modifications to fix identified vulnerabilities.
- Monitor security systems for anomalies, respond to security incidents, perform initial analysis, and escalate as necessary.
- Resolve identified compliance issues from regular checks to ensure the systems comply with the organization’s security policies and standards.
- Implement end‑user security practices, such as password management and access controls.
- Coordinate with vendors to ensure the correct implementation and functioning of security systems.
- Regularly update and upgrade security systems to keep pace with technological advancements and evolving threats.
- Train team members on security operations, troubleshooting, and best practices.
- Continuously educate yourself on the latest cybersecurity trends, threats, and technology advancements.
- Participate in cross‑functional projects to enhance system integration and collaboration.
- Complete any assigned work‑related duties and responsibilities, ensuring high performance and satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- Certifications: CISSP, CEH, or CISM preferred; AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure credentials advantageous; ITIL, CRISC, or CISA beneficial.
- Experience: Hands‑on experience with security measures such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, antivirus, and data encryption; vulnerability assessment and remediation; security protocols, encryption technologies, and network protocols; incident response and threat hunting; network security implementation; cloud security in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud; compliance management.
- Key Technical Skills: Proficiency with security tools (firewalls, IDS/IPS, antivirus), vulnerability assessment tools (Nessus, OpenVAS, Qualys), network security protocols, scripting languages (Python, Bash), encryption technologies, and IT service management frameworks (ITIL).
- Soft Skills: Strong problem‑solving, detail‑oriented, excellent communication, teamwork, continuous learning, customer focus, adaptability, stress and time management, ethical integrity.
