SUMMARY
This position is based in Western Cape.
The successful candidate must be a Professionally Registered Civil Technologist / Civil Engineer with 5 years plus experience in an Urban Civil Engineering environment.
Core Functions
- Personally, maintains a field of technical specialisation recognised by the industry and all Naidu Consulting stakeholders.

- Presents papers at technical forums.
- Contributes to industry wellbeing and success by sitting on an industry related committee on an ongoing basis.
- Actively participates in Naidu Consulting’s internal forums e.g. conferences, team building events, etc.
- Must have sound knowledge of all industry related statutory bodies regulations and requirements in terms of the Public Sector Acts and the Financial Management Acts.
- Manages a strategic sector within a division and reports to the Technical Executive / Functional Manager.
- Manages and directs senior and junior staff, ensuring deliverables are met.
- Is responsible for allocated portion of the Action Plans and Project Pipeline.
- Is responsible for debtors, creditors and securing new orders.
- Is responsible for innovation hubs within the division.
- Is responsible for operational management of staff including all leave applications approval and career pathing.
- Must be able to work long hours, including after hours and weekends in order to meet urgent project deliverables.
- Assigns work, check and manage work allocated to Senior and junior engineers, technologists and technicians or draughts people where applicable.
- Where required, co-ordinates and takes responsibility for all delivery aspects of a small project or a portion of a larger strategic project.
- Programmes and ensures that deadlines are met on all project or portions of the project falling within the direct responsibility of the Sector.
- Ensures that all designs, reports and drawings produced by are prepared, checked and signed off at the required delegation level.
- Assists in compiling accurate project cost estimates and cash flow projections.
- Ensures that all drawings produced are signed and issued to site timeously.
- Effectively deals with site engineering queries (SEQ’s) from site staff, enlisting the help of supervisors where required.
- Attends and constructively contributes to design meetings and site progress meetings.
- Provides a Contract Administration function on projects within the Sector.
- Approves project related correspondence.
- Receives and checks contractor’s payment certificates.
- Ensures that all aspects of the project are handled strictly in accordance with the Naidu QMS.
- Plans, organises and controls large projects and makes technically sound recommendations on alternate solutions to engineering problems.
- Providing design or supervision support to the Sector in ensuring efficient performance within the Sector.
- Independently prepares and presents technical reports, institutes changes in the methods, design, processes or equipment with minimal guidance.
- Ability to manage contractual claims and disputes independently.
- Drives innovation within the Sector.
- Assists with the preparation of monthly status report.
- Assists Senior Technologist / Senior Engineer with administration duties as required.
- Drafts technical reports of acceptable technical and presentable quality.
- Assists with preparation of estimates for alternative solutions.
- Assists with the preparation of concept drawings and basic calculations.
- Assists with the preparation of basic planning and design reports with recommendations for submission to the client.
- Prepares preliminary design plans, calculations and check compliance with accepted design codes.
- Measures preliminary quantities and prepare estimates.
- Prepares design development and layout drawings.
- Prepares detailed design calculations.
- Prepares detailed drawings.
- Assists with the preparation of final design report.
- Attends site handover and subsequent meetings.
- Makes amendments to construction drawings as and when required.
- Assists with the compilation of project specifications (COLTO, SANS, GCC).
- Preparation of tender evaluation report.
- Preparation of Tender Documentation.
- Chairs monthly progress meetings where necessary. Timeously produce as-built drawings, compile any completion reports that may be required and get signed off at the required level.
- Develops personal relationships with, and professional respect of, your peers and superiors in Naidu and the clients with whom you interact.
- Can confidently liaise with clients and debate on a technical level and make decisions timeously.
- Attends Naidu sponsored and industry functions and effectively “networks” on behalf of Naidu.
- Assists in drawing up tenders and / or writing proposals.
- Aligns “self and personal” effort to the Naidu Mission / Vision / Shared values and Strategic Imperatives.
- Provides technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
- Through proper exploration of engineering principles and concepts, effectively briefs draughts people and junior engineering staff.
- Attends post-graduate courses in line with own and company development requirements.
- Participates in Industry committees and institutions.
- Has the ability to manage and direct junior staff, ensuring deliverables are met.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Science / Technology in Civil Engineering
- Registered with ECSA as a Professional Civil Engineer / Civil Technologist
- Maintain professional registration on an ongoing basis
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a Civil Engineering Consultancy Environment
