Job summary

Transnet NPA invites applications for Second Engineer (Port Operations) in Port Elizabeth. You will join the engine room management team, performing watchkeeping, maintenance, and safe operation of propulsion and power systems to support harbour craft services.

Reporting to the Marine Technical Manager, you will safeguard assets and ensure compliance with maritime regulations. The role requires valid port operations certificates, extensive watchkeeping experience, and the ability to train junior

Qualifications

• Mandatory maritime engineering certificates and offshore watchkeeping qualifications.
• Various Ancillary Courses listed in the ad (First Aid, Survival Techniques, Fire Fighting).
• Official port operations certifications required for senior engine room roles.

Responsibilities

• Carry out independent watchkeeping duties in engine room.
• Ensure correct operation and running of machinery.
• Maintain propulsion machinery start-up readiness and generator operation.
• Record readings and inspections in logbooks.
• Train AB Deck and Engine room staff as required.

Certificate of competency as Second Engineer (Port Operations)

Motorman HG (Merchant Shipping Act)

Officer in Charge of Engineering Watch

Designated Duty Engineer

Chief Eng. Officer (<1500 kW Port Operations)
