About the Role

Our client, a vibrant and community-focused high school in Kimberley, Northern Cape , is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic School Librarian and Media Specialist. This role is central to fostering a love of reading and supporting academic research across all subjects. The Librarian will manage the school library's collection, promote information literacy, and integrate technology into the learning environment. This position requires active engagement with students and staff, making the library a dynamic hub for learning and discovery. As an integral part of the school's academic support system, the Librarian will curate resources, conduct research skills workshops, and ensure the library is an accessible and welcoming space for everyone. We are committed to creating a stimulating educational environment and seek a professional who shares this vision. This is a full-time, on-site role within a dedicated team in Kimberley .

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the selection, acquisition, cataloging, and organization of library resources (print and digital).
• Develop and implement information literacy programs to teach research skills, source evaluation, and academic integrity.
• Promote reading for pleasure through book talks, reading challenges, and library events.
• Provide reference services and reader's advisory assistance to students and staff.
• Oversee the circulation of library materials and ensure efficient library operations.
• Manage and maintain the library's integrated library system (ILS) and other technological resources.
• Curate and manage digital resources, databases, and online learning tools.
• Collaborate with teachers to support curriculum needs and integrate library resources into classroom instruction.
• Maintain a safe, orderly, and inviting library environment.
• Stay current with trends in librarianship, educational technology, and intellectual freedom.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Information Science, or a related field is required.
• A Master's degree is preferred.
• Relevant professional certification or qualification in librarianship.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a librarian, preferably in a school setting.
• Strong knowledge of library management systems, digital databases, and e-resources.
• Excellent understanding of information literacy concepts and research methodologies.
• Proficiency in integrating technology into library services and instruction.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Passion for reading, learning, and supporting student success.
• Ability to engage effectively with students and educators.
• Must be eligible to work in South Africa and reside in or near Kimberley, Northern Cape .
