Job description

Staff Management

  1. Set targets, performance plans, and rigorous, objective standards for sales representatives.
  2. Meet with reps one-on-one weekly to review performance, progress, and targets.
  3. Deliver deep performance reviews for each individual rep once or twice per year.
  4. Coach individual sales representatives one-on-one through phone work and prospecting help sessions to help them improve sales performance (semiannually or annually).
  5. Participate in spontaneous sales call rides and planned field days weekly.
  6. Counsel, support, and discipline underperforming sales representatives semi-monthly or monthly.
  7. Develop a scalable sales process and ensure representatives adhere to it correctly.
  8. Ensure that reps use sales technologies, such as a CRM, correctly.
  9. Plan and implement training programs, including regular skills training sessions with internal or external sales trainers.
  10. Plan and preside over weekly sales team meetings monthly.
  11. Hold team building events onsite or offsite weekly.
  12. Recruit, select, onboard, and train new sales reps monthly. In some cases, oversee regional and local sales managers.
  13. Motivate and engage the sales team with monetary and non-monetary (intrinsic) motivational tactics, such as sales contests, lucrative incentive packages, prizes, and public recognition.
  14. Unite the team by ensuring reps work as a positive unit and share best practices.
  15. Set a good example for the team.
  16. Work according to company culture and values, prioritize ruthlessly, use good communication, and deliver results effectively.

Managing Customer Needs

  1. Maintain a deep understanding of customer needs and monitor their preferences.
  2. Resolve escalated customer issues and complaints regarding sales and service.
  3. Provide expertise when setting and adjusting pricing plans and discount rates.
  4. Provide advanced negotiation expertise.
  5. Connect company headquarters with customers and salespeople in the field.

Managing the Business

  1. Determine and assign sales quotas, targets, and goals.
  2. Project and forecast annual and quarterly revenue for one or more sales territories.
  3. Develop sales strategies to acquire new customers or clients.
  4. Track sales team metrics and share them with company leadership.
  5. Analyze sales data on sales results and develop plans to address performance gaps.
  6. Collaborate with marketing executives to develop lead generation plans.
  7. Prepare budgets and approve expenditures.
  8. Monitor competition, economic indicators, and industry trends.
  9. Advance one's own professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, participating in professional societies and industry networks, and reading relevant publications.
