Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Sales Engineer with a strong background in high-volume manufacturing, ideally within the packaging industry, to join our dynamic team based in the East Rand. The role requires national travel and reports to the Sales Manager / General Manager. The successful candidate will maintain and expand strategic business relationships with key clients while identifying new opportunities to grow the company’s market share.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Client Relationship Management: Build, maintain, and strengthen strategic relationships with existing clients across South Africa; act as the primary technical and commercial point of contact; conduct regular client visits, reviews, and feedback sessions to ensure customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Market & Industry Mapping: Conduct detailed market research to identify growth opportunities, emerging trends, and competitive dynamics in the high-volume manufacturing and packaging industries; develop and execute a clear market penetration strategy to increase the company’s share of wallet with existing clients and secure new business.
  • Sales & Business Development: Drive sales of high-volume manufacturing solutions, equipment, and/or services, meeting or exceeding monthly, quarterly, and annual targets; generate and qualify leads, prepare proposals, and negotiate contracts in line with company policies; manage the full sales cycle, including technical presentations, tender submissions, and closing agreements.
  • Technical Expertise & Support: Leverage mechanical engineering knowledge to understand client requirements and recommend appropriate technical solutions; prepare accurate tenders, quotations, and costing agreements in alignment with company objectives and client expectations; provide input into product development and improvement initiatives based on customer feedback and market insights.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Mechanical Engineering degree or similar qualification.
  • Proven experience as a Sales Engineer in a high-volume manufacturing environment, with a track record of developing client relationships and delivering sales growth.
  • Strong exposure to the packaging industry is a distinct advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in tenders, costing, and commercial negotiations.
  • Excellent understanding of the South African manufacturing and industrial landscape.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, CRM tools, and basic financial modelling.
  • Willing and able to travel nationally as required; based in the East Rand, with a valid driver's license and own transport.
