SALES ASSISTANT
Minimum skills and experience required:
  • Previous retail or customer service experience (pet industry advantageous)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer literacy (POS, Excel beneficial)
  • Strong numerical and administrative accuracy
  • Ability to follow procedures and work systematically
  • Honest, reliable, and able to work independently
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Social media familiarity (Facebook/WhatsApp groups)
  • Stock control and cash-up experience advantageous
Duties and Responsibilities:
Customer Service
  • Assist and attend to all customers entering the store
  • Provide product information and support client needs
  • Uphold company values: honesty, openness, integrity, constructive behavior, client focus, respect for all
Stock Control and Administration
  • Daily stock monitoring, receiving, counting, and control
  • Checking expiry dates and reporting stock with <3 months remaining
  • Minimum 3 departmental stock takes per week
  • Stock ordering, insertion, pricing, adjustments, and updating
  • Monthly stock reports, supplier summaries and GP tracking
Cash Management and Financial Duties
Daily
  • Cash-up and balancing of takings
  • End-of-day procedures
  • Reconciling stock sales to card machine reports
  • Recording invoices and petty cash control
  • Sales reporting to the owner
Weekly
  • Cash counting and reconciliation
  • Banking
  • Ensure change levels are maintained
Monthly
  • Stock sales reporting (department and detailed)
  • Refund processing
  • Stock-on-hand reporting
  • Daily sales captured into cashbook
  • Summary of invoices and credit notes
  • Month-end stock summary per supplier
  • Monthly GP reporting
  • Personal sales capture
Store Presentation and Marketing
  • Keep the store neat, clean, and visually appealing
  • Set up product promotions and poster displays
  • Update Facebook page 2–3 times weekly
  • Post small adverts to community buy/sell groups (min. 4 groups; 2 posts/week)

  • Monthly/annual sales budget and target achievement
