Job summary

A leading mining company is seeking a Safety Officer to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in an underground mining environment. Candidates must have a matric certificate, relevant safety qualifications, and at least 3 years of experience in the mining sector. The role includes conducting inspections, facilitating incident investigations, and maintaining safety procedures. Position is based in Limpopo, South Africa.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in an underground Mining Environment.
  • Must meet Client requirements in terms of security clearance.
  • Good knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act and Mining Industry Codes of Practice.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the roles and responsibilities of the Safety Officer as required by the MHSA.
  • Conduct Safety Officer inspections and generate reports.
  • Facilitate the investigation of SHE incidents.

Minimum Requirements
  • Matric certificate/ equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Computer literate (Proficient in MS Office, word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Must be a South African and reside within Blouberg or Musina Municipality
  • Must be medically fit to work underground
  • Must meet Client requirements in terms of security clearance etc.
Relevant Safety Qualifications (COMSOC, SAMTRAK, NEBOSH Or Equivalent)
  • Blasting certificate / valid Trade Test will be a distinct advantage
Experience, Knowledge & Skills
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in an underground Mining Environment.
  • Previous experience in conventional, trackless, and inclined development ends.
  • Experience conducting Safety Officer inspections.
  • Experience in participating in and/or leading incident investigations through ICAM or other relevant investigation techniques.
  • Good knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act and Mining Industry Codes of Practice.
  • Experience in conducting risk assessments and preparing associated safe operating procedures.
  • Emergency preparedness and response management knowledge and experience.
  • Effective Collaborator and Self-Management
Roles & Responsibilities
  • Perform roles and responsibilities of the Safety Officer as required by the MHSA and Redpath/ Client requirements.
  • Conduct Safety Officer inspections and generate and upload the relevant reports
  • Facilitate the investigation of SHE incidents.
  • Assist with the maintenance of relevant procedures.
  • Communicate Health and Safety Awareness and Campaigns and on the job coaching of legislative and procedural requirements
  • Attend meetings with relevant Management as required.
  • Assist with maintenance of ISO system.
