We are seeking a Safety Officer. The incumbent will act as a safety representative for all safety-related matters.
Attend all the safety meetings required by the various mines, Sasol and other projects.
Ensure that each mine has the required safety files and each project/contract which requires safety files is provided.
Update these safety files with new staff details, man house, PPE registers and checklists.
Ensure that all documentation related to compliance with mine and project safety is sent to the relevant safety departments monthly.

- SAMTRAC qualification
- COMSOC 1 & 2HIRA
- Legal Liability
- First aid
- Incident investigation experience
- FFSC / BRCGSK
- Knowledge of Construction Regulations
- ISO Background
- Mining, Food Safety and Pest Control background
- Environmental management qualifications / background
- Cleaning background
- Awareness and Implementation Training
- Excellent knowledge of the various mines an advantage
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good interpersonal skills
- Must be systematic
- Proficient in reading and writing in English
- Own vehicle & valid driver's license
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure that all Sanitech staff attends the medicals and inductions required for site scope.
- Ensure that all Sanitech staff and vehicles are always badged and follow up with the site agent to ensure that he knows the expiry dates.
- Update the safety files with new licences issued, badges, medicals and training (first aid and firefighting).
- Ensure new badges & permits are obtained for vehicles when the licence expires or the contract is extended.
- Ensure new vehicles in the fleet are provided with permits and that the inspection sheets are completed and sent to the mine.
- Prepare the appointment letters for the various Sanitech personnel on the various mines.
- Ensure that badges are collected and handed in to applicable sites.
- Ensure that all new staff joining Sanitech are put through the correct process and that they understand the safety requirements on the various mines and sites.
- Ensure that all staff working on sites are aware of and understand the site policies and procedures.
- Attend the various safety meetings required to be attended at the various sites monthly and weekly and feed back the details to the Branch manager & line manager weekly on a report.
- Ensure that the points discussed in the safety meetings are communicated to the staff and a toolbox talk register is signed off.
- Ensure operations do the required PTO weekly/monthly (as per the site requirements); this is also to be updated and placed in the safety file.
- Submit a safety report to the site 1x per month and provide a copy of this report to the Branch manager & line manager / submit various safety details required to the various mines/sites.
- Ensure that our Sanitech safety files are updated and complete the monthly checklists (quarterly checks; Ops do monthly checks).
- Prepare the SHE files required by the various sites.
- Conduct risk assessments, method statements, scope of work and site plans (as per site requirements) on site and communicate.
- Maintain weekly contact with the safety managers / site managers of the various sites.
- Quarterly audits to be done at branches and on sites.
Key Performance Measurables
- Ensure that we comply with the mining health and safety standards and requirements on all sites.
- Ensure that we comply with the OSH act.
- Ensure that all the Sanitech vehicles have valid permits & attend the various inspections required.
- All badges for vehicles & staff must be renewed before expiry to avoid us not being able to access the site.
