Job Title : Safety Officer Seniority Level : Mid-Career (2 - 4 yrs exp) | Type : Temp Job Purpose : To ensure the factory operates in compliance with all occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations while promoting a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.

In addition, the Safety Officer will support general administrative functions to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and inspections.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; compile reports and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure safety signage, protective equipment, and emergency protocols are maintained.
  • Organise safety inductions and ongoing training for all staff.
  • Maintain safety records and ensure legal compliance.
  • Lead monthly safety meetings and emergency drills.
  • Monitor hazardous chemical handling and storage procedures.
Administrative Support Responsibilities
  • Assist with documentation, filing, and record-keeping.
  • Support procurement processes related to safety supplies.
  • Prepare monthly reports for management on safety performance and compliance.
  • Help with scheduling training, maintenance, and audits.
  • Coordinate safety compliance for new hires and contractors with HR and operations.
  • Provide general administrative support as needed.
Minimum Requirements
  • Matric (Grade 12) Additional qualification in Occupational Health & Safety or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2-3 years' experience in industrial safety roles.
  • Strong knowledge of OHSA and basic understanding of hazardous chemicals.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and good administrative skills.
