Job summary

A mining company is seeking a Health, Safety and Environmental Officer for their Anglo Platinum Mine in Rustenburg. The role requires implementing and monitoring compliance with safety regulations, conducting risk assessments, and facilitating HSE training. POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a highly competent and experienced Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Officer to join our team at an Anglo Platinum Mine in Rustenburg.

The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and maintaining compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act), and all company and client safety requirements. The ideal candidate must be SACPCMP-registered and possess a minimum of 7–10 years' experience in health and safety within the mining and construction sectors.

Preference will be given to local candidates from the Rustenburg area.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Implement and enforce HSE standards in line with MHSA, OHS Act, and Anglo Platinum requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessments, HIRA reviews, and develop safe work procedures.
  • Carry out incident investigations, root cause analyses, and ensure implementation of corrective actions.
  • Conduct daily site inspections, toolbox talks, and ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Pile and maintain HSE documentation, including reports, registers, and legal appointments.
  • Facilitate HSE inductions and training for all site personnel and contractors.
  • Monitor contractor compliance and ensure that all work is performed safely and in line with legal and client expectations.
  • Participate in safety meetings, emergency preparedness activities, and internal/external audits.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through visible leadership and engagement with employees at all levels.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • SACPCMP Registration: Occupational Health and Safety Officer (mandatory).
  • Qualification: National Diploma or equivalent in Occupational Health and Safety / Environmental Management.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7–10 years' experience in health and safety within mining and construction environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and related regulations.
  • Proven experience working under Anglo American / Anglo Platinum HSE systems and procedures (advantageous).
  • Valid Driver's License and own reliable transport.
  • Computer literacy: MS Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Local candidates from Rustenburg and surrounding areas will be given preference in line with employment equity principles. The position requires regular site-based work and interaction with operational and management teams. Remuneration will be based on qualifications and experience. Qualified candidate must be available from 1 December.
