Job summary

A leading aviation training firm in Johannesburg is seeking a knowledgeable RPAS Flight Instructor to provide both ground school and flight training. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with SACAA regulations, develop training programs, and evaluate student performance while maintaining the highest safety standards. The position requires a Matric certificate and a Remote Pilot Certificate, with an advantage for those holding instructor ratings.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 Matric certificate is a minimum requirement.
  • Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) recognized by SACAA.
  • Instructor Rating is advantageous.
  • Minimum 1 year RPAS operational flying experience is advantageous.
  • Experience in RPAS instruction or aviation training is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct theoretical and ground instruction training.
  • Instruct student pilots per approved training programs and manuals.
  • Assess student performance through tests and evaluations.

Job description

The RPAS Flight Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality ground school and flight training in line with South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) regulations.

This role involves preparing and delivering theoretical and practical instruction, evaluating student performance, maintaining training records, and ensuring safety and compliance during all RPAS operations.

The instructor will also contribute to curriculum development, industry compliance and continuous improvement of training programs.

Responsibilities & Duties (Including but not limited to the below)
  • Co-ordinate & conduct theoretical & ground instruction training & activities
  • Ensure students gain a solid understanding of SACAA Civil aviation regulations & technical standards
  • Instruct student pilots as per approved training programmes, lesson plans & the Training Procedures Manual
  • Conduct knowledge assessments by means of tests, oral questioning and classroom evaluations.
  • Provide hands‑on flight instruction as per approved training syllabus and Training Procedures Manual
  • Demonstrate correct pre‑flight, in‑flight, and post‑flight procedures
  • Monitor and assess student performance, providing constructive feedback
  • Uphold the highest safety standards during all flight operations
  • Develop innovative techniques, training aids and methods to improve training efficiency
  • Develop, manage, and update training programs, lesson plans, manuals, and supporting materials in line with SA CAA regulations and the approved Training Procedures Manual
  • Oversee all administrative aspects of the training process
  • Ensure students are fully prepared for certification assessments and proficiency checks
  • Support operational and regulatory compliance by maintaining organized, audit‑ready training records and documentation
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports on student progress, training deficiencies and assessments to report to Head of Training
  • Report on all safety‑related incidents, occurrences and unsafe practices to Head of Training
  • Maintain records in an organized and audit‑ready format for management review
  • Remain current with RPAS regulations, industry trends and new technologies
  • Attend refresher courses, webinars and industry conferences
  • Take on opportunities with a "can‑do attitude" and promote continuous learning within the training team
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 Matric certificate (minimum requirement)
