Job summary

A global engineering firm is seeking an experienced Roadway Design Engineer for their Pietermaritzburg office. This role entails planning and designing roadway projects, coordinating with various disciplines, and producing construction drawings. The ideal candidate should have a Master’s degree and at least 12 years of experience in roadway design, preferably with exposure to Middle Eastern standards. Excellent communication skills and proficiency in design software are crucial for success in this role.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 12 years of professional experience in design and documentation of roadway projects.
• Experience in Middle East projects is a must (preferably Dubai).
• Knowledge of International Roadway Design Guides (AASHTO, DMRB, RTA, QHDM, MUTCD and other similar standards).
• Good organizational skills.
• Proficiency in written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Plan and design deliverables against Middle East and US DOT standards.
• Coordinate with other disciplines for well-coordinated designs.
• Produce concept and detailed roadway construction drawings.

Skills

Task manager of Roadway Design Projects

Ability to use design software such as OpenRoads Designer, Autodesk Civil 3D, and ProjectWise

Experienced in AutoCAD/MicroStation for production of design drawings

Knowledge of Navisworks/GuideSign

Strong command of BIM360

Experience with plans, profiles, corridor modeling

Familiarity with ADA ramp design and Complete Street designs

Conversant with Signage, Markings, and Traffic Control Plans

Basic knowledge of Pavement Design and Cost Estimation

Programming skills

Experience in preparation of technical and progress reports

Adopt QA/QC procedures

Education

Master’s degree in Transportation Engineering/Roadway Technology/Highway Engineering
