Retail Marketing Manager

Location: Johannesburg | Department: Retail Marketing | Reports to: Executive Committee

We’re looking for a commercially minded marketing leader who thrives on data, systems, and measurable impact, someone who can turn marketing strategy into sustainable business growth.

This role blends creativity with commercial rigour. You’ll define and deliver the retail marketing strategy, lead a high-performing team, and build processes that deliver predictable results, from lead generation and conversion to customer retention and ROI.

What You’ll Do
Strategic & Commercial Leadership
  • Own and execute the end-to-end retail marketing strategy across all channels, digital, in-store, activations, sponsorships, and CRM.
  • Deliver robust budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting frameworks that connect marketing performance directly to business results.
  • Track and optimise spend to maximise ROI and ensure budget discipline.
  • Design and implement lead generation strategies that deliver qualified leads and measurable sales growth.
Performance Marketing & Analytics
  • Lead digital performance marketing across Google, Meta, Programmatic, CRM, SEO, and e-commerce.
  • Establish repeatable campaign processes for planning, execution, measurement, and reporting.
  • Analyse the full marketing funnel, CAC, ROAS, CLTV, margin impact, stock‑turn velocity, and translate insights into clear business actions.
  • Build and maintain marketing dashboards and reporting systems to ensure transparency and accountability.
Team & Process Leadership
  • Lead and inspire the Retail Marketing team, working closely with in‑house Design and other business units.
  • Build structured, dependable workflows with clear checks, balances, and accountability.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members with measurable outputs and performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Merchandising, Digital, and CRM teams to ensure marketing directly supports retail objectives.
Systems & Technology
  • Maximise utilisation of marketing systems, CRM, ERP, and data platforms.
  • Identify and close capability gaps through smart technology and automation.
  • Champion data integrity, integration, and system efficiency to drive marketing performance.
Retail & In‑Store Marketing
  • Lead all in‑store campaigns, activations, and promotions, ensuring flawless execution across the retail network.
  • Partner with store managers to bring national and local campaigns to life.
  • Maintain brand excellence across every physical and digital touchpoint, from visual merchandising to broadcast, OOH, and in‑store media.
What You’ll Bring
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Advanced analytical and data modelling skills, comfortable with marketing metrics and reporting tools.Proven success in performance marketing, lead generation, and conversion optimisation.
  • A process‑driven mindset, designing systems that scale and continuously improve.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, managing multidisciplinary teams and influencing at executive level.
  • Excellent communicator and collaborator, skilled in stakeholder alignment and strategic delivery.
  • A passion for retail, sport, and performance, and ideally, a personal love of golf and cycling.
Qualifications & Experience
  • BCom, BSc, or equivalent analytical/financial qualification preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience in senior marketing or commercial leadership roles within retail or consumer sectors.
  • Proven record of delivering measurable marketing outcomes linked to revenue and profitability.
  • Experience leading teams across both digital and traditional marketing disciplines.
