JOB PURPOSE
To provide oversight and lead all operations of the store, ensuring the store functions smoothly while optimizing profits. The role will promote and increase customer traffic to the store by improving customer satisfaction levels and ensuring stock availability to customers at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Grade 12
- Diploma / Degree in Retail or Business or related qualification will be advantageous
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a retail environment, ideally in a managerial or leadership level
- Knowledge and experience in management of inventory/stock, buying, staff, products merchandising, costs and profitability of the store
- Knowledge of stock management systems like ERP, Meat Matrix, etc.
- Knowledge and understanding of FMCG environment and related legislation
- Management of perishable products with short shelf life especially in meat industry
- Understanding of retail consumer behaviour and purchasing trends
- Understanding of the retail and meat market
- English proficiency (read, write, speak)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in MS Office Suite
- Demonstrable analytical skills – understanding of income statements, cash flows, stock management reporting, and all basic financial systems
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively
- Exceptional customer service and people management skills
- Energetic and self‑starter
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Stock Management
- Stock ordering, placing orders with factories and suppliers, follow up on orders, manage deliveries and stock arrival
- Manage stock order volumes, stock receiving, report delivery shortfalls and damages, capture received stock on Meat Matrix
- Stock controlling, daily stock level reporting, run stock depletion reports, cashier balance
- Manage stock levels threshold, shrinkage (losses/damages/dumping)
- Housekeeping
- Store cleanliness – floors, bathrooms, office spaces, passageways, aisles, packing areas, chillers, freezers, cashier till points and deli area
- Maintain high level of HACCP standards throughout the store
- Observe OHSA hazards and abide by rules and resolution of the Act
- Employee Management
- Recruitment, onboarding and induction, training and development
- Employee relations (discipline), performance management, wellness, motivation
- Store organisation – display of products, attractive displays, merchandising materials, shelf rearrangement
- Cash Management
- Daily cash ups, minimise cash losses, manage cash movement, keep safe secure and locked
- Customer Service
- Deliver excellent service to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction
- Understand local customer product preferences, analyse complaints, improve satisfaction
- Lead brand loyalty, respond to complaints promptly and accurately
- Scan and analyse customer environment, purchasing patterns, initiate activities to influence behaviour
- System Administration
- Manage staff clockings via ERS, maintain Meat Matrix system, manage CCTV cameras, ensure physical security guards, manage alarm system internally
