Job Title: Resident Structural Engineer (RSE)
Salary: R35000 to R46000 depending on experience.
Location: CBD – Cape Town on Site

Purpose of the Role
The Resident Structural Engineer (RSE) is responsible for overseeing all structural engineering activities on site, ensuring that construction works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and relevant standards. The role provides technical guidance, quality assurance, and coordination between the contractor, consultants, and client.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- BEng / BTech / in Structural.
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in structural construction supervision.
- Experience in reinforced concrete and structural steelworks is essential.
- Strong knowledge of SANS codes and structural construction practices.
- Must have a reliable vehicle
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure all structural works adhere to SANS standards, project specs, and engineering best practices.
- Review and approve quality control documentation (cube results, material certificates, compaction tests, weld tests, etc.).
- Issue non-conformance reports (NCRs) when required and monitor corrective actions.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Site Supervision
- Monitor construction works to ensure compliance with structural drawings, specifications, and engineering principles.
- Conduct daily site inspections and record structural progress.
- Review and inspect formwork, reinforcement, concrete works, structural steel, and other key structural elements before casting/installation.
- Identify and resolve technical issues on site, escalating when necessary.
- Verify contractor’s setting‑out related to structural components.
Coordination & Communication
- Attend site meetings and provide technical input to the project team.
- Liaise with the structural design team for clarifications and design queries.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to resolve site conflicts.
- Facilitate communication between the contractor, subcontractors, and consultant engineers.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain a detailed site diary of structural work activities.
- Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports.
- Track and verify quantities for progress claims and variations.
- Ensure all documentation is accurately filed and accessible.
Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with the project’s safety plan as it relates to structural works.
- Participate in safety audits, toolbox talks, and incident investigations.
