A leading renewable energy firm is seeking a Renewable Energy Project Engineer in Johannesburg. Competitive remuneration of R680,000 to R840,000 CTC per annum based on experience.

With a growing portfolio of solar, wind, and utility‑scale storage projects, they are expanding their engineering team with a driven Renewable Energy Project Engineer who brings strong, hands‑on experience in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

Duties & Responsibilities

This is a key engineering role supporting the development, design, and delivery of innovative clean‑energy projects across the region. You’ll collaborate with cross‑functional teams—including development, grid, construction, procurement, and commercial stakeholders—to deliver high‑quality, commercially viable BESS and hybrid renewable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead technical assessments and engineering reviews for utility‑scale BESS and hybrid renewable projects (solar + storage, wind + storage, grid‑connected systems).
• Produce and review engineering documentation, including system sizing, single‑line diagrams, specifications, drawings, and performance models.
• Support feasibility studies, yield assessments, and techno‑economic analyses with a strong focus on BESS technologies.
• Interface with OEMs, EPCs, and external engineering consultants to ensure technical compatibility and optimal project design.
• Participate in grid connection studies, ensuring compliance with applicable standards, codes, and utility requirements.
• Provide technical support during procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
• Identify and mitigate project risks, ensuring cost‑effective and reliable engineering solutions.
• Stay informed of emerging energy‑storage technologies, market trends, and regulatory developments.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related field.
• Proven industry experience successfully delivering renewable energy or power infrastructure projects, with a strong emphasis on utility‑scale BESS.
• Solid understanding of BESS system architecture, PCS/inverter technologies, EMS, controls, fire‑safety design, and integration with renewable assets.
• Experience using industry‑standard engineering and modelling tools.
• Strong familiarity with electrical codes, standards, and grid interconnection requirements.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, cross‑functional environment.

Package & Remuneration

R680 000 CTC to R840 000 CTC per annum based on qualifications and experience
