Job summary

SolarAfrica Energy Pty Ltd is seeking a Utility Engagement Specialist to manage utility relationships and submission/follow-up of grid-related applications with municipalities and providers. The role is field-based and requires initiative, integrity, and experience navigating municipal processes.

The specialist reports to the Grid Specialist and collaborates across engineering, project development, and compliance teams to ensure timely approvals and compliant submissions.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years coordinating with electricity utilities, especially for solar or renewable projects or 3+ years in a municipal-facing energy role.
• Proven track record engaging with SA municipalities, Eskom or regulatory stakeholders.
• Experience navigating approvals, compliance, and bureaucratic systems.
• Hands-on with project registration, grid interconnection, and net metering processes.
• Familiarity with UoSA, SSEG, EG, Grid Connection, Nersa reports and related applications.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain relationships with municipal officials, Eskom, and regulators.
• Submit and track energy applications in person and online with authorities.
• Coordinate with engineering and compliance teams to align external processes with project timelines.
• Maintain documentation on SharePoint; manage trackers and reporting.
• Schedule meetings and inspections; escalate delays to leadership.
• Represent the organisation professionally in interactions with public officials.
• Support internal reporting with progress updates and risk flags.
• Assist in designing a municipal engagement database for future projects.
