About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Remote Underwriting Manager to lead their underwriting team, operating on a fully remote basis. You will be responsible for overseeing the underwriting process for a diverse portfolio of insurance products, ensuring profitability and adherence to risk appetite. Key Responsibilities

Lead, mentor, and manage a remote team of insurance underwriters. Develop and implement underwriting guidelines and strategies to achieve business objectives and manage risk exposure. Oversee the assessment and pricing of complex insurance risks across various product lines. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and internal policies. Monitor underwriting performance metrics, identify trends, and implement corrective actions as needed. Collaborate with sales, claims, and product development teams to ensure alignment and identify new business opportunities. Conduct regular performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback and coaching to direct reports. Champion the adoption of technology and data analytics to enhance underwriting efficiency and decision-making. Manage broker and partner relationships, providing expert underwriting support. Contribute to the development and refinement of insurance products.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Actuarial Science, or a related field. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in insurance underwriting, with at least 3 years in a management or leadership capacity. Demonstrated success in managing and leading remote teams. In-depth knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and pricing methodologies. Strong understanding of the South African insurance market and regulatory landscape. Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills. Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities. Proficiency with underwriting software, CRM systems, and data analysis tools. Proven ability to drive performance and achieve business targets in a remote setting.
