Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Remote Sensing Specialist to join a remote-first team advancing precision agriculture. You will analyze satellite, drone, and GIS data to build models for crop monitoring, yield estimation, and resource optimization.

The role requires a strong background in remote sensing, GIS, and data science, with experience across Sentinel/Landsat data, Python or R, and cloud platforms. You will collaborate with agronomists and software engineers in a fully remote setting and communicate

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Remote Sensing, Geography, Geoinformatics, Earth Sciences, or related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in processing and analyzing remote sensing data, with a focus on agricultural applications.
• Expertise in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) and remote sensing software (ERDAS Imagine, ENVI, Google Earth Engine).
• Proficiency in programming languages used in geospatial analysis (Python, R) and experience with data science libraries.
• Experience with remote sensing platforms and sensors (Sentinel, Landsat, aerial imagery, UAV data).
• Strong understanding of statistical analysis and machine learning techniques applied to geospatial data.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills for remote collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Acquire, process, and analyze remote sensing data (satellite, aerial, drone) for agricultural applications.
• Develop and implement algorithms and models for crop monitoring, yield estimation, soil analysis, and disease detection.
• Integrate remote sensing data with other geospatial datasets using GIS software.
• Create detailed maps, reports, and visualizations to communicate findings and recommendations.
• Stay current with advancements in remote sensing technology, GIS, machine learning, and their applications in agriculture.
• Collaborate with agronomists, data scientists, and software developers in a remote setting.
• Ensure the quality, accuracy, and consistency of processed data and outputs.
• Develop and maintain geospatial databases for agricultural projects.
• Contribute to the development of new products and services leveraging remote sensing.
• Provide technical support and guidance on remote sensing and GIS methodologies.
