Placements24 is seeking a Lead Data Scientist for a fully remote role across South Africa. You will lead a team of data scientists and drive advanced analytics, building predictive models for fraud, credit scoring, and customer insights.

Collaborate with product and engineering to deliver data-driven finance solutions. The ideal candidate holds a Master's or PhD in a quantitative field, 7+ years in data science with leadership, deep ML expertise in Python/R, ML libraries, and cloud platforms.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in a quantitative field.
• 7+ years in data science with leadership experience.
• Proficient in Python or R and ML libraries.
• Strong SQL and big data tech experience (Spark/Hadoop).
• Experience with cloud platforms and MLOps is desirable.
• Excellent problem solving and communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development and deployment of ML models for fraud, credit scoring, segmentation, and more.
• Extract, clean and transform large datasets from various sources.
• Develop and implement robust data pipelines and ETL processes.
• Mentor and manage a remote team of data scientists.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers and stakeholders.
• Stay at forefront of AI and data science advancements.
• Communicate findings clearly through visualizations and presentations.
• Ensure scalability and performance of models and data solutions.
• Contribute to strategic direction of data science initiatives.
