Job Description
A reputable national accounting firm is looking to employ a qualified SAICA / SAIPA Accountant, working half-day. While the position is remote, you must be based in Cape Town for occasional meetings in the Tygerberg offices. You will be working to assist clients, mostly SME businesses. A good working knowledge of Pastel, Xero and Caseware is essential.
In this role you will be maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with accounting standards, producing financial reports, maintain proper accounting records and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the reported financial results and ensure that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.
A self-starter, capable of maintaining the requirements of and managing a portfolio of clients would be ideal.
Key responsibilities
- Assisting in the preparation of financial statements
- Processing year‑end journals
- Performing various year‑end reconciliations and tax computations
Responsibilities
- Attend to audit queries and liaise with the auditors and ensure finalisation of audit within the relevant deadlines
- Assist in preparation for year‑end audit processes and liaise with external auditors
- Maintain an awareness of the legal and regulatory framework within which the company operate
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Completed degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Completed SAICA/SAIPA articles
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, preferably within a professional services environment
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and relevant regulations
Skills and Attributes:
- Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Strong time management and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and handle confidential information with integrity
- Proficient in Pastel, Xero and Caseware.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written)
