Qualifications

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Remote Crop Analyst to join their agricultural technology team. Operating from anywhere within South Africa, you will play a critical role in leveraging data analytics and remote sensing technologies to monitor crop health, predict yields, and provide strategic recommendations for our client's diverse agricultural operations, including those in the Eastern Cape. This position requires a strong understanding of agronomy, data science, and the ability to work independently, collaborating virtually with field teams and management. You will contribute to optimizing farm management decisions through insightful data interpretation.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze satellite imagery, drone data, and ground sensor data to assess crop health, growth stages, and identify potential issues like disease or nutrient deficiencies.
• Develop and refine predictive models for crop yield forecasting based on historical data, weather patterns, and real-time field observations.
• Generate comprehensive reports and visualizations that clearly communicate findings and actionable recommendations to farm managers and stakeholders.
• Collaborate virtually with on-site agricultural teams to validate data and gather ground-truth information.
• Stay updated on the latest advancements in remote sensing, data analytics, and agricultural technology relevant to crop science.
• Provide data-driven insights to support strategic decision-making regarding resource allocation, pest management, and irrigation strategies for farms across various regions, including Port Elizabeth.

Requirements

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Agronomy, Data Science, Agricultural Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in crop analysis, data science, or precision agriculture, with a focus on remote sensing data.
• Proficiency with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and data analysis tools (e.g., R, Python).
• Strong understanding of agronomic principles, crop physiology, and common agricultural challenges.
