Job summary

A leading engineering firm in Cape Town is seeking a Reliability Engineer with a BSc or BEng and GCC (Factories). The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of experience in physical asset management and must be familiar with reliability-centered maintenance. Responsibilities include driving best practices and supporting reliability improvements. This contractual role may lead to long-term opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years hands-on experience as Reliability or Maintenance Engineer.
  • Experience in consulting industry is preferred.
  • Understanding of Risk Based Inspection (RBI) is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Driving application of reliability engineering best practices.
  • Support the terminal with reliability studies.
  • Identify reliability improvement projects and develop justifications.

Job description
RELIABILITY ENGINEER

We are looking for a BSc or BEng (Mechanical or Electrical) Engineer, GCC (Factories) with Pr.Eng (ECSA) and 5+ years experience in any physical asset intensive industry such as oil & gas, chemical, utilities, power generation, manufacturing, facilities, nuclear etc.

The role will support our Client's business as a Reliability Engineer on a contractual basis (6+ months, with a possible long-term extension). This will be site-based, a GMR2.1 appointment in the Western Cape.

Skills and Experience
  • In-depth understanding and experience in the technical, safety, people and contractor management aspects related to Physical Asset Management, Maintenance Management and Reliability Strategy Development implementation or improvement programs.
  • Experience in Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM), Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA), Reliability Opportunity Improvement (ROI) process, Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies, condition monitoring, Predictive and Preventative Maintenance, Bad actors and threat management.
  • Strong background in mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Understanding of Risk Based Inspection (RBI).
  • Knowledge of Occupation Health and Safety Act.
  • Accomplished in risk and process safety management and contractor performance management.
  • Asset data analysis to support data-driven business decisions.
  • Delivery focussed with strong project technical management skills.
  • Proven ability in managing and leading multi-cultural & experienced technical team members reporting under you.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective interaction with people at all levels.
  • Excellent ability with engaging and influencing support teams (Technicians, Specialists, etc.) on technical matters.
  • Proven track record in performing in high-intensity environments, strong operational content involved and challenging deadlines.
  • Problem solver, you will utilize your experience and versatile leadership approaches to bring people together & drive problems to resolution.
Responsibilities
  • Driving systematic application of industry reliability engineering best practices.
  • Execute RCM, RBM FMEA, RCA, and Reliability analytics.
  • Support the terminal with reliability studies i.e. bad actor improvement process, RCA, RCM, Criticality Analysis, IPR (Intensive Process Review), ROI (Reliability Opportunity Identification), MTBF, MTBR.
  • Provide equipment availability insights and reliability strategy recommendations.
  • Document problematic equipment and provide input into the maintenance, operations, and outage strategies to optimise equipment strategies.
  • Analyses data to inform and contextualise operational and maintenance activities.
  • Lead or support investigations.
  • Support the overall life cycle cost of the asset to meet business strategies by providing input into the asset strategy for reliability (including CAPEX, Maintenance routine Expenditure and Major Mechanical) based upon knowledge of the inspection, reliability plans, and the PM requirements.
  • Identify reliability / availability improvement projects and develop initial justification, incentives, and business value to support the funding request.
Educational Requirements
  • Possession of a BSc or BEng in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years hands‑on experience as plant Reliability or Maintenance Engineer, GMR2.1 appointment or in Consulting Industry.
  • Required certifications are GCC (Factories) and ECSA Professional Engineer.
  • Knowledge of CMMS and strong Work Management process knowledge would be an added advantage.
