Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
- Facultative Reinsurance & Special Acceptances: Review, approve and manage referrals that fall outside underwriting mandates. Source and secure facultative or special acceptance reinsurance for risks exceeding treaty limits ensuring compliance with internal underwriting guidelines.
 
- Reinsurance Renewals: Prepare, analyse and distribute comprehensive reinsurance renewal packs in collaboration with internal teams and underwriting partners. Engage with treaty reinsurers to negotiate terms, finalize proposals and secure optimal treaty support.
 
- Stakeholder and Treaty Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with treaty and facultative reinsurers, underwriters and internal business units. Ensure ongoing alignment, transparency and effective communication across all parties.
 
- Financial Administration: Process all monthly and quarterly reinsurance payments including facultative and excess‑of‑loss transactions. Maintain accurate financial records and ensure timely settlements.
 
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Provide analytical support through data validation, performance tracking and reporting. Identify trends, assess risks and contribute to data‑driven decision‑making processes.
 
Job Experience and Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Actuarial Science, Mathematical Sciences, Engineering, Law or Commerce (or a related field).
 
- Minimum 24 years experience within the insurance or reinsurance industry.
 
- Proven exposure to facultative and/or treaty reinsurance processes is highly advantageous.
 
- Strong understanding of short‑term insurance operations, underwriting and risk assessment principles.
 
- Experience managing stakeholder relationships across internal teams and external reinsurers.
 
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook (intermediate level).
 
- Working knowledge of Power BI or other data visualisation tools will be an advantage.
 
- Strong analytical, numerical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
 
- Self‑motivated and organised with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks.
 
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
 
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a dynamic team environment.
 
Remuneration
R 350 000 – R 500 000 – Annually
