Function Nursing Facility Life St Dominic's Hospital Position Rehab Therapist (POD) | Occupational Therapist Introduction

A position has become available for a Rehab Therapist (POD Occupational Therapist), based at Life St. Dominic’s Rehabilitation Unit, reporting to Carina Basset, Therapy Services Coordinator. Life Rehabilitation is part of an expanding network of rehabilitation units within Life Healthcare Group.

Critical Outputs
  • Evaluation, program development and treatment of patients admitted to the unit
  • Assessment and treatment of patients with neurological disorders such as traumatic brain injuries and stroke
  • Assessment and treatment of patients with spinal cord injuries, poly trauma and joint replacements
  • Function effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team to meet the requirements of quality patient care
  • Education of patients and their families about patient’s condition
  • Participation in weekly team and family meetings
  • Perform home visits
  • Assess for, order and fit assistive devices
  • Active participation in continuous professional development activities of the unit
  • Building relationships with referring doctors and therapists
Requirements
  • Applicants need to have a degree in Occupational Therapy and currently be registered with HPCSA
  • Experience in treating adults with neurological and spinal cord disorders will be a strong advantage
  • It is essential to have an understanding of stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries and joint replacement therapy
  • NDT, seating and spinal cord injury training will be an advantage
  • The candidate will need to demonstrate commitment to qualify patient care and customer satisfaction
