Job summary

Mayfly Agri is seeking a seasoned Regulatory Affairs professional to ensure full compliance for fertilizers, bio-stimulants, and agricultural remedies in South Africa. You will coordinate registrations, import permits, and post‑registration changes.

You will liaise with R&D, Quality, and Supply Chain, represent the company at DALRRD and industry bodies, and keep management updated on regulatory timelines and portfolio impacts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters in agriculture, chemistry, biology, biotechnology, environmental science or related field.
  • 3–7 years’ regulatory affairs experience in fertilizers, bio-stimulants or agricultural remedies.
  • Experience with international companies on product registrations and market access.
  • Experience with South African product registrations and import permits.
  • Strong knowledge of South African agricultural legislation and ability to interpret regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure full regulatory compliance of fertilizers (Groups 1 & 2), bio-stimulants (Group 3) and agricultural remedies (Group L) in South Africa.
  • Prepare, compile, submit, and maintain product registration dossiers per SA legislation.
  • Manage registrations, renewals, amendments, label extensions, and post-registration changes.
  • Engage with local and international companies to communicate SA regulatory requirements and facilitate registrations.
  • Act as primary regulatory contact between suppliers and internal teams (R&D, Quality, Supply Chain).
  • Coordinate import permits and regulatory clearances with Supply Chain, Logistics and external agents.
  • Represent the organisation at DALRRD and industry bodies (FERTASA, SABO, etc.).
  • Review and approve labels, SDS, and marketing materials to ensure claims align with registrations.
  • Monitor regulatory changes, assess portfolio impact, and communicate updates and timelines to management and partners.
  • Maintain regulatory records, registrations, permits, and compliance trackers; support product stewardship.

Job description

Minimum requirements for the role:
  • Must have a B. Tech., B. Sc., or M. Sc. in Agriculture, Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Environmental Science, or a related scientific field
  • Minimum 3–7 years’ experience in regulatory affairs within the fertilizers, bio-stimulants, or agricultural remedies sectors
  • Proven experience working with international companies on product registrations and market access
  • Practical experience with South African product registrations and import permits
  • Strong knowledge of South African agricultural legislation and the ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements accurately
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Ensuring full regulatory compliance of fertilizers (Groups 1 and 2), bio-stimulants (Group 3), and agricultural remedies (Group L) in South Africa.
  • Preparing, compiling, submitting, and maintaining product registration dossiers in accordance with South African agricultural legislation.
  • Managing new product registrations, renewals, amendments, label extensions, and all post-registration change.
  • Engaging with local and international companies and suppliers to clearly communicate South African regulatory requirements and facilitate product registrations for the local market.
  • Acting as the primary regulatory contact point between external suppliers and internal teams, including R&D, Quality, and Supply Chain.
  • Facilitating and coordinating import permits and regulatory clearances, working closely with Supply Chain, Logistics, Quality, and external agents to ensure smooth importation.
  • Representing the organisation at the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD) and industry bodies such as FERTASA, SABO, and other relevant forums.
  • Reviewing and approving product labels, technical data sheets, safety data sheets (SDS), and marketing materials to ensure all claims comply with approved registrations.
  • Monitoring changes in South African regulatory requirements, assessing portfolio impact, and proactively communicating updates, risks, and timelines to management and international partners.
  • Maintaining accurate regulatory records, registrations, permits, and compliance trackers while providing regulatory support to product stewardship activities across the product lifecycle.
