The purpose of the role is to provide strategic leadership and oversight of the DBSA's existing client portfolio by ensuring effective monitoring, proactive risk management, and sound governance across South Africa, the Rest of Africa, and high-impact transactions, thereby safeguarding portfolio sustainability, performance, and long-term value creation.

Responsibilities
- Credit Portfolio Monitoring and Risk Reviews: conduct structured, periodic credit reviews; initiate/review rapid risk reviews; track covenants; review credit quality; provide early warning indicators to credit committees; perform quick-turnaround risk assessments; evaluate and recommend amendments, waivers, or restructures.

- Stakeholder Management and Problem-Solving: collaborate with stakeholders; foster open communication and diverse perspectives.
- People Management: lead and develop team members; provide mentorship and capacity building.
- Reporting and Monitoring: stay informed on sector/country intelligence; produce reports; analyze data to identify trends; use tools to enhance reporting while safeguarding confidentiality.
Qualifications & Experience
- Postgraduate degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or Risk Management or related field.
- Minimum 10 years' experience in credit risk analysis, portfolio monitoring, or financial analysis within wholesale/investment banking or development finance.
- Proven track record in credit reviews and portfolio monitoring across Africa; experience in financial modelling, risk analysis for both new and existing investments; strong financial structuring capabilities.
- Familiarity with ESG/sustainable finance and blended finance frameworks; proficiency with credit systems and risk reporting tools.
- Experience evaluating facility amendments, restructurings, and covenant waivers; ability to interact with origination teams and risk committees.
Desirable Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting or related field.
- Professional certifications (e.g., FRM, CFA, CA(SA)); experience with sovereign risk, infrastructure finance, and public sector lending.
- Experience with bilateral, club, or syndicated transactions with multilateral institutions.
