Registered Nurse Midwife Qualified based in our Maternity unit at Life Bay View Private Hospital reporting to Gerdia Langenhoven, Unit Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing holistic patient care and contribute to collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders in line with company and hospital strategic objectives.

Introduction

Critical Outputs / Responsibilities
  • Comprehensive perinatal care to antenatal and postnatal patients and babies, and the management of patients in labour.
  • Strict adherence to Mother and Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative Policies and Procedures to support and promote breastfeeding.
  • Effective cost management for staff and stock by:
    • Flexibility in working hours based on activity and acuity in the unit.
    • Optimising stock management by ensuring stock is charged accurately and timeously and expiry dates are monitored and communicated.
  • Providing quality patient care by:
    • Ensuring patient documentation is medico-legally defensible and comprehensive.
    • Providing accurate, appropriate, and adequate health education to patients and family members during hospitalization and in preparation for discharge.
    • Employing gentle principles to manage the patients’ experience in the maternity unit.
    • Monitoring and implementing preventative measures to minimize risk.
  • Conducting effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including identifying private midwives’/doctors’ preferences and implementing them in the working environment.
Requirements
  • Relevant Degree or Diploma in Nursing
  • Diploma in Midwifery
  • Nursing experience in maternity ward with a passion for natural delivery
  • Current registration with the relevant professional or regulatory body
  • Understanding of the private healthcare industry; its challenges and key players would be an advantage
  • Computer proficiency
