Job description

A vacancy exists for a Registered Nurse ICU Qualified, reporting to Jenny Le Roux, Unit Manager.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing holistic and optimal quality nursing care to critically ill patients in order to maximize a positive outcome for the customer in line with Company & Hospital strategic objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Provide quality basic and specialized nursing care
  • Continuous communication with patient and family regarding their condition
  • Administer medication in accordance with ethical, legal framework
  • Review and comply with internal policies and protocols
  • Ensure quality management systems and initiatives are conducted according to unit specification
  • Advocate the patient by motivating acuity to case management and notifying doctor of any limitations
  • Interact and communicate with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Provide training and development for personal and professional growth
  • Ensure ICU team works according to scope of practice to ensure correct skills mix
  • Manage all stock used according to unit specific policies and protocols
  • Control and manage staff hours leave in accordance with company policy
  • Provide effective infection control and SHEQ by maintaining a safe and holistic patient environment
  • Promote safe and healthy working environment by completing SHEQ alerts and incident reports
  • Ensure effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders by conducting in-service orientation on doctor specific preferences
  • Execute doctor's requests and prescriptions after patient rounds
  • Assist multi-disciplinary team members in executing duties
  • Ensure equipment and instrumentation function properly, checking daily and reporting defaults
  • Educate and supervise staff and doctors on correct utilisation of specialized equipment and instrumentation
  • Ensure records are accurately completed and stored in accordance with legal and ethical requirements
Qualifications
  • Relevant Degree or Diploma in Nursing
