Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide perioperative nursing care in accordance with theatre standards.
  • Prepare and maintain a sterile surgical environment, ensuring all instruments and equipment are sterilised and ready for procedures.
  • Assist surgeons during operations by anticipating needs, handling instruments, and ensuring patient safety.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs pre-, intra-, and post-operatively, ensuring effective recovery and continuity of care.
  • Manage the safe handling and counting of swabs, needles, and instruments.
  • Support anaesthetists during induction and recovery phases, including airway management and monitoring.
  • Maintain accurate and complete perioperative documentation, including theatre registers and instrument checklists.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control standards throughout surgical procedures.
  • Participate in theatre audits, stock control, and equipment maintenance.
  • Work collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists, and other team members to ensure seamless surgical workflow.
  • Provide mentorship and orientation to new theatre staff and student nurses.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and training in theatre techniques and safety standards.
Desired Experience & Qualification
  • Post Basic Qualification in Operating Theatre Nursing (essential)
  • Degree / Diploma in General Nursing
  • SANC Registered
  • Minimum 2-3 Years of experience in the Theatre unit.
