Clinical Midwifery Educator (0.4-1FTE)

We have a new and exciting opportunity for a Clinical Midwifery Educator (CME) to join our close-knit team to support our staff and mentor student midwives. The role is a permanent full‑time position; however part‑time or job share will be considered for the right applicant.

The Role

We are seeking a skilled, passionate and motivated senior midwife with the ability to work within all areas of the Maternity to the Midwifery Services Unit Manager (MSUM) and working closely with our Clinical Maternity Unit Managers (MUMs) and Midwifery Educator (ME). The role will support the organisation over a wide range of education and development services, including our new Graduate Diploma program.

The successful candidate will be capable of using advanced midwifery clinical skills, proven teaching methods, and superior communication skills to drive improvement in education and evidence‑based practice. They will develop meaningful connections with Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs), show initiative and flexibility, and hold a high regard for professional and clinical experience. Prior success in preceptorship and other teaching roles will be highly regarded.

Responsibilities

As a Clinical Midwifery Educator, your responsibilities may include:

  • Working with the MSUM and Midwifery Educator to support our commitment to high‑level education and training.
  • Clinical support and facilitation of undergraduate and postgraduate students of midwifery programs.
  • Facilitating the orientation and onboarding of new staff.
  • Taking a leadership role in providing hands‑on educational support and clinical teaching to our clinical team, graduate midwives and students.
  • Assisting with competency assessments, learning plans and in‑service presentations.
  • Promoting a high standard of evidence‑based midwifery care to all patients through dissemination of current best‑practice knowledge.
  • Ensuring employee compliance with mandatory training requirements and completion of eLearning components.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in policy and procedure development, implementation and compliance.
Essential Criteria
  • Registered Midwife with AHPRA registration.
  • Extensive post‑registration clinical experience in midwifery with no less than 6 years.
  • Demonstrated recent clinical experience in a birthing suite environment.
  • Certificate IV Workplace Assessment & Training (TAE) or working towards it.
  • Experience teaching and supervising students and novice midwives.
  • Strong preceptorship and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service & communication skills.
  • Demonstrated quality improvement activities and policy review/development skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Hold a valid NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) for employment.
Desirable Criteria
  • Previous CME experience.
  • Master’s in Midwifery / Education.
  • Demonstrated innovation in education program design and delivery using evidence‑based practices.
