Job summary

Efficiency Staffing Solutions (Pty) Ltd invites applications for a Refractory Mason on a fixed-term contract basis in Benoni, Gauteng. You will remove and install refractory materials on-site, read drawings, and work with hand and power tools to fit bricks and line furnaces.

Ideal candidates have N3 with Red Seal and 5+ years in the field, strong teamwork, and a commitment to health and safety. On-site work with potential local/intl commissioning and strict adherence to quality standards.

Qualifications

• Job-specific knowledge with minimum N3 level and Red Seal as a Refractory Mason.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in the field.
• Basic proficiency with relevant technical tools or systems.
• Ability to work as a team member on company projects.
• Customer service orientation and emphasis on results, diplomacy, multitasking and priority setting.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes and technical knowledge.
• Knowledge about preparing and mixing mortar.
• Using and maintaining power tool and hand tools.

Responsibilities

• Removing and installing refractory materials in customer equipment on-site.
• Read and interpret drawings and blueprints and work by hand or with hand and power tools.
• Measure accurately from an established starting point, using plumb lines and a mason’s level as necessary.
• Apply knowledge of mortars and bonding materials to different projects.
• Utilise hammers, chisels and masonry saws to cut and fit bricks.
• Line or reline furnaces, kilns, boilers and similar installations with appropriate bricks or materials.
• Work independently and with others to meet deadlines and complete projects.
• Experiment with materials and methods to solve construction challenges.
• Productivity – follow instructed procedures as processes may change.
• Ensure good housekeeping practices.
• Health and Safety – wear protective equipment.
• Follow lawful instructions by management.
• International/Local commissioning and field service as required.
• Ensure all equipment issued is kept safe.

Job description

Our client in the Manufacturing Industry is seeking to employ a Refractory Mason to join their team. Please note that this is a fixed-term contract.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Removing and installing refractory materials in customer equipment on-site.
• Read and interpret drawings and blueprints and work by hand or with hand and power tools.
• Measure accurately from an established starting point, using plumb lines and a mason’s level as necessary.
• Apply knowledge of various mortars and bonding materials and apply the knowledge to different projects.
• Utilise hammers, chisels and masonry saws to cut and fit bricks.
• Line or reline furnaces, kilns, boilers and similar installations using refractory or acid-resistant bricks, concretes, plastics or other material.
• Work effectively both independently and collaboratively with co-workers to meet deadlines and complete projects.
• Experiment with various materials and methods to solve construction challenges.

Experience & Qualification

• Job-specific knowledge with a minimum qualification of N3 level with necessary Red Seal qualification as a Refractory Mason.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in the relevant field.
• Basic proficiency in relevant technical tools or systems necessary for the role.
• Ability to work as a team member and participate in projects that involve or impact the entire company.
• Customer service orientation and emphasis on results, diplomacy, multitasking and priority setting.
• An understanding of manufacturing processes and technical knowledge.
• Knowledge about preparing and mixing mortar.
• Using and maintaining power tool and hand tools.
• Cutting out and filling masonry joints in ashlar, rubble, and brickwork.
• Cut and indent new stone pieces.
• Repairing, replacing, or resetting bricks, furnaces roofs and slabs.
• Drilling, grouting, and pinning fractured stones, resetting copings.
• Performing, washing including mechanical and chemical cleaning of masonry surfaces.
