Job summary

The City of Springfield Library Department is seeking a Reference Librarian to provide reference and instructional services to the public and branches. The role involves assisting patrons with finding and using materials, developing bibliographic aids, and participating in outreach programs.

You will plan bibliographic instruction, contribute to system-wide services, supervise staff as needed, and stay current with library trends to improve public information access.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and completion of an American Library Association accredited Master of Library Science.
• Two or more years of experience in a library environment.

Responsibilities

• Provides reference and instructional services to the general public, branches and regional libraries.
• Oversees web maintenance and production of bibliographic aids.
• Participates in outreach, books by mail, instruction, collection development and reader advisory products.
• Plans and implements bibliographic instruction for students and groups; participates in staff training.
• Keeps abreast of library field developments and trains staff to increase awareness.
• Performs routine tasks such as payments processing and statistics keeping.
