Receiving & Inbound Logistics Manager

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and organized Receiving & Inbound Logistics Manager to take ownership of all inbound logistics operations at our Distribution Center.

This includes coordinating incoming deliveries of both inventory and non-inventory items, supporting imports, and building a robust receiving and slotting process that can scale with our business.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in inbound supply chain and warehouse operations, who is confident in working cross-functionally and building efficient, trackable processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inbound Coordination:
    • Schedule and coordinate all inbound deliveries, including local suppliers, bulk transfers, and imports
    • Ensure accurate documentation is prepared and received for all inbound stock (packing lists, invoices, customs docs)
    • Act as the central point of contact for all inbound logistics queries, delays, and supplier updates
    • Track all inbound shipments from dispatch to receipt, ensuring timely arrivals and status updates
  • Receiving Operations:
    • Oversee the receiving function at the DC to ensure timely, accurate, and damage‑free receipt of goods
    • Design and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for receiving inventory and non‑inventory items
    • Collaborate with the Inventory Manager to hand over accurately received and checked goods for putaway
    • Ensure all cartons and pallets are scanned, labeled, and accounted for at the point of receipt
    • Lead continuous improvement initiatives in the receiving workflow to reduce bottlenecks and errors
  • Slotting and Storage Optimisation:
    • Design and implement a slotting strategy to assign optimal storage locations for incoming inventory
    • Develop a zoning and layout plan that accommodates growth in SKUs and volume
    • Maintain a live slotting map to ensure bin-level visibility and space utilization
    • Monitor slotting performance and make adjustments based on volume, velocity, and product type
  • Imports & Cross‑border Coordination:
    • Assist with import shipments including customs documentation, freight tracking, and delivery coordination
    • Liaise with import agents, freight forwarders, and customs clearing partners
    • Ensure all imports are fully compliant with SARS and customs requirements
    • Maintain visibility of international lead times and inbound shipment schedules
Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in inbound logistics, warehouse receiving, or import coordination
  • Experience working in or scaling a distribution center or warehouse environment
  • Strong knowledge of inbound logistics processes, documentation, and compliance
  • Familiarity with slotting, inventory visibility tools, and warehouse layout planning
  • Working knowledge of customs clearance and freight forwarding processes
  • Strong organizational, communication, and coordination skills
  • Proven ability to design and implement processes in a fast‑growing environment
  • Advantageous : Experience with fashion or general merchandise supply chains
