Job summary

A logistics and supply chain company located in Germiston is seeking a meticulous Raw Materials Controller. In this role, you will manage inventory flow and ensure process efficiency, particularly focusing on safety compliance and system accuracy. The ideal candidate should have a diploma in Supply Chain Management and at least 2 years of relevant experience. This position offers a permanent contract with a salary of R25 000 CTC per month.

Job Title : Raw Materials Controller

Job Summary

We are seeking a meticulous and proactive Raw Materials Controller to join our Warehouse and Logistics team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the flow and integrity of raw materials and packaging inventory to ensure uninterrupted production and accurate system records. This role is ideal for someone with strong inventory control experience and a passion for process efficiency and safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Compliance
  • Follow all company Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Report Unsafe Acts, Unsafe Conditions, and potential hazards promptly.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in line with 5S and KAIZEN methodologies.
  • Ensure the safe storage and handling of raw materials and packaging, including PPE compliance.
  • Ensure that Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for raw materials are available and accessible to all warehouse staff.
Inventory Control & Stock Management
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels of raw materials and packaging (RMs and PKG) to avoid stock-outs or overstocking.
  • Manage all inbound raw materials and packaging, ensuring physical receipt matches system entries.
  • Inspect deliveries to confirm correct items are delivered, in the right quantity and quality.
  • Ensure FIFO (First In, First Out) principles are followed for material usage.
  • Conduct cycle counts and perpetual stock counts to ensure system accuracy.
  • Track and reconcile production inputs vs. outputs, report on discrepancies, and support root cause analysis.
System Management & BOM Accuracy
  • Ensure real-time system updates of inventory movements and material consumption.
  • Update and maintain Bill of Materials (BOMs) to reflect accurate usage and costing.
  • Liaise with production to ensure used materials are correctly booked in the system.
  • Collaborate with the Planning Manager to review sales forecasts and ensure material availability aligns with production schedules.
Collaboration & Communication
  • Work closely with the Production, Planning, QC, and Warehouse teams to ensure seamless operations.
  • Facilitate effective communication between departments regarding material readiness, non-stock purchases, and stock issues.
  • Support production targets by ensuring the timely and accurate issue of required materials.
  • Collaborate with QC to ensure the correct evaluation and approval of raw material countertypes.
Reporting & Controls
  • Monitor and report on inventory variances and suggest corrective actions.
  • Review production formulas to ensure economical usage of materials.
  • Assist in developing and implementing material control systems and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure all data in ERP and MRP systems is current and correct.
Additional Duties
  • Perform any other tasks as directed by the Line Manager or Unit Manager in support of warehouse and production efficiency.
Minimum Requirements
  • NQF Level 5 Qualification / Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or Warehousing.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a warehouse coordinator or supervisor role.
  • Experience with ERP systems (especially production & MRP modules).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • Knowledge of warehousing best practices and hazardous goods classifications (DGs).
