Job Title: Radio Network Planner & Optimisation Engineer (2G–5G)

Location: Bryanston

Type: 12 months contract

Department: Technology / Network Engineering

Salary: R300 an hour

Role Purpose

We are seeking a skilled Radio Network Planner & Optimisation Specialist to manage radio site planning and optimize our multi-technology mobile network (2G/3G/LTE/5G). You will be responsible for ensuring high-quality network performance, capacity planning, and resolving network-related customer experience issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and optimize radio access network (RAN) sites: indoor, outdoor (greenfield, rooftop, macros, mini-sites).
  • Monitor and analyze network performance KPIs to ensure optimal quality of service.
  • Conduct cluster-level optimization for existing mobile networks across technologies (2G, 3G, LTE, 5G).
  • Perform deep-dive investigations and resolve complex RAN performance issues using trace analysis and statistical tools.
  • Collaborate with external drive testing vendors (e.g., Umlaut) to address reported network failures and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Provide recommendations for network capacity expansion and performance enhancements.
  • Support cross-functional teams with technical expertise to address customer complaints related to network quality.
Core Competencies & Technical Skills
  • Proficient in network planning and analysis tools: U2020, Actix, Atoll, Sonar, Discovery SmartCare, OSS Probes, and Crowd Analysis tools.
  • Strong working knowledge of MAPINFO, MS Office, and MS Teams.
  • In-depth understanding of GSM, UMTS, LTE, and 5G technologies.
  • Solid grasp of RAN components, architecture, and customer experience KPIs.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • National Diploma or Degree in Electrical (Light Current), Electronic Engineering, or a SAQA-accredited equivalent.
  • 3–5 years of experience in mobile telecom networks, specifically in RAN planning and optimization.
  • Completion of relevant GSM, UTRAN, LTE, and 5G technical training/certification.
  • Experience working with external drive test vendors is advantageous.
